Weekly Rundown: Soccer and Cross Country

Cross Country
The cross-country team traveled to St. Paul last weekend to compete in the Roy Griak Invitational.
Freshman Morgan Place led the women's team as a fourth place finish.
Place won the 6K Maroon Division II race, with senior Liz Palkie finishing third, according to the UMD Web site.
The men's team took 12th, with impressive showings from juniors Zach Varty (30th), Mike Kramer (41st) and Tyler Bjorhus (91st).
The team will compete this weekend at the Blugold Open in Colfax, Wisc. on Friday, Oct. 3.
Soccer
The Bulldogs hosted their first at-home Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match last Friday against the University of Minnesota-Crookston.
UMD easily defeated their opponent, 4-2.
Junior Kelly Duchene scored early in the first half, the score 1-0.
Sophomore Maria Leider scored again for the Dogs at 21:49, according to the UMD Web site.
At 23:23, Claire Dahmen scored an unassisted goal for UMD. The score was now 3-0.
In the second half, sophomore Whitney Wilson solidified their victory with a goal at 68:32, according to the UMD Web site.
The Bulldogs played again on Sunday, hosting Minnesota State University Moorhead.
However, the game ended in a 0-0 deadlock.
Although the Bulldogs had numerous chances to score, Moorhead's goaltender made 19 breathtaking saves, according to the UMD Web site.
UMD sophomore goaltender Hannah Bengtson only had two saves and got the shutout.
The Bulldogs will host Upper Iowa University this Saturday at 1 p.m.
