Reading books is something everyone in college seems to be accustomed to. Normally, reading is done for classes and often the material covered is not that enjoyable. So, do students like to read just for the fun of it?

"I think yes, students are interested in reading, but there would probably be more people reading if there weren't so many who were struggling to read their text books for classes," Ava Grendahl, a junior at UMD, said.

Sources like the UMD Library, the Duluth Public Library and even the Mt. Royal Branch Library offer more than books. Students and cardholders can check out music CDs, sheet music, movies and audiobooks.

John Bohman, a senior, takes reading to another level.

"I like to use it as an escape when I need to get away from everything," he said.

Mary Oneil, a sophomore agreed with Bohman.

"I think I enjoy reading more than cinema, because, through reading, I allow my imagination to run free, and it's easier for me to form my own ideas about the material presented," she said.

A personal recommendation is the book titled "Princess: A True Story of Life Behind the Veil in Saudi Arabia" by Jean P. Sasson. The book explores the story about a woman who grew up as a princess in Saudi Arabia and gives some insights on life as a woman in the Middle East.

Whether you're deep in a new find or delving into an old favorite, don't be afraid to close the textbook for a day and read for fun.
